State of Archaeology and Inscriptions in the Eastern Mediterranean in the Persian Period
Panel host: James D. Moore
This panel is devoted to the state of the inscriptional and archaeological research on the Eastern Mediterranean in the Persian Achaemenid period. It will discuss the state of the evidence from sites in the Persian Mediterranean frontier (e.g., Egypt, the Levant, the Transjordan, North Arabia, and Anatolia) or closely aligned island states, such as Cyprus. Objectives include, but are not limited to, understanding the imperial shifts from the Neo-Babylonian to Persian or Persian to Hellenistic periods or the relationship between the Persian empire and Phoenician Mediterranean market economy.
