Our department has joined the ongoing excavations by the Oriental Institute of the University of Chicago and Ben-Gurion University Beersheva at Tell Keisan, Israel. The project is funded by the Humboldt University Foundation and the Gerda Henkel Foundation with a total amount of more than 400,000 Eur.

The excavations are co-directed by Prof. David Schloen from Chicago, Prof. Gunnar Lehmann from Beersheva, and Prof. Bernd U. Schipper from Berlin.

Our plan is to come to Tell Keisan each summer with a group of students from Humboldt University to dig the ruins of the ancient Phoenician settlement together with our colleagues from Israel and the US.
