Prof. Dr. Dr. Bernd U. Schipper


Professor Schipper joined the Humboldt University of Berlin in 2010 and has also had appointments at the Universities of Bremen, Oldenburg, Heidelberg, and Harvard. His research focuses on the Wisdom tradition, the cultural contacts between Israel and Egypt, and the ‘Judahite-Aramaic’ community on Elephantine. Among his current book projects are a commentary on the book of Proverbs (Hermeneia, Fortress Press), a study on the Joseph Story (Anchor Yale Bible Reference Library, Yale University Press) and a revised English edition of his monograph Israel und Aegypten in der Koenigszeit (Ancient Near Eastern Monographs Series, SBL Press).
