Humboldt-Universität zu Berlin - IOSOT 2025

Call for Panels

In addition to themed sessions on the main fields of Hebrew Bible and Ancient Israel (1), the IOSOT Congress will include specialized panels on current research projects that participants propose and organize (2).

(1) The themed sessions will cover the following fields:

  • Pentateuch
  • Former Prophets
  • Latter Prophets
  • Writings
  • Deuterocanonical and Cognate Literature
  • Dead Sea Scrolls
  • Theology, Ethics, and Hermeneutics of the Hebrew Bible
  • Archaeology of Ancient Israel and the Southern Levant
  • History of Ancient Israel within the Ancient Near East
  • Religions of Ancient Israel and the Ancient Near East

A call for papers to be presented in these sessions will be released in mid-2024.

(2) Specialized panels can present the results of recent research projects, discuss current questions in the field, or explore paths for future investigation. The deadline for submitting proposals was February 29th, 2024. Applicants may submit panel proposals that have open calls for papers, or may organize panels with invited speakers.

Panel proposals should include the proposed topic, a concise overview of the panel idea (maximum 400 words), and the applicant's contact information. Panel proposals with invited speakers should also comprise their names and tentative paper titles. Please submit your proposal using the application form to iosot2025@hu-berlin.de. If you have any questions, please don't hesitate to contact us for assistance.

As time slots are limited, the IOSOT 2025 team will review the submitted proposals to select a representative set of panels covering the full range of current research and providing a platform for both established and early career researchers. Applicants will be notified of the outcome of their proposals by June 1, 2024. Subsequently, a call for papers will be issued for all sessions and specialized panels open for paper proposals.

Please note that participants should not take on more than one active role as speaker or chair of a session or panel during the congress. This is due to the limited capacity at the congress venue and is intended to ensure that as many participants as possible are able to actively contribute to the congress.
